I called Julian MiniStorsage and yes indeed, their pricing is good:

$39.04 monthly rental
$15.00 initial setup fee
$54.04 total rental 1st month
so only drawback is I'd be depending on just one transit stop nearby
early Friday mornings, so likely I'd have to try to hitch a ride to
get to & from there. The 2.4 mile walk into downtown Julian is
feasible, worst case, I guess.
so I'll probably do that.
so it looks like I wouldn't really start hiking til NEXT WEEK Friday.
That should avoid the crowd of hikers starting after this weekend's
Kickoff event.
