Processing Picts again, of course, reluctantly waiting for that long process offloading another 100GB of images from the last four days hiking. Otherwise all washed (self & clothes) caches fetched from the two road-summits, bike & daypack fetched from the Alderbrook Hiker Hut, backpack re-packed and dropped off again at the hiker hut, and eager to head off for Seiad, checking out the Scott River Road from here to there, to see if I will be able (and willing) to bicycle this road, upriver, back to Etna.
Also plan to check out a potential "midpoint food cache" at the Paradise Lake Trailhead, off of Scott River Road apparently near a Ranger Station there - this would be about a 1.5 mile spur trail off of the PCT which would just be an "option" if I ate more than anticipated. But this section from Etna Summit to Seiad is only 50-55 miles depending, and I've already backed that much food in the pack I left. But then, I did enjoy cherry-picking the additional food options I gave myself with the caches I left this last time, and probably saved myself a half hour of water filtering by leaving water there as well. So let's see, saved a half hour of water pumping at idyllic fens that I probably stopped at anyway for picts, added extra food I didn't eat to my pack, and burnt 1-2 gallons extra gas and 1-2 hours extra with my car driving to the two road summits, finding good hiding spots, and picking up the trash and dirty socks afterwards. Not very environmentally responsible. Shame. But then, this whole PCT hiking activity during these summer months is trading rent for gas.
One 32GB CF card done, 2 & a bit of a third more to go.
So I'll try to recall some things about my last hike in additional post-dated posts.
