Leaving my bicycle here again, expect to take four days for the 55 miles back to car at Mt Ashland.
Yesterday's bike ride from there started off as smoothly as hoped, with probably even a slight tailwind speeding me up on the few level to slightly uphill bits on I5, and for about the first hour along the Klamath River. I was actually thinking I might have time to begin hiking that afternoon.
But I did get started at 9am, about an hour later than hoped, and a southwest wind started ramping up, and soon I found myself having to pedal downhill fully crunched down. In the third-lowest gear at best.
I found myself having to take breaks along the river due to exhaustion, on one of these I took a long snooze, pleasant enough in the warm breeze. I had brought along almost 4 liters water, and food, and used all of it. Finally got to Seiad about 6pm.
Retrieved my pack, took a shower, sorted myself out a bit and had a long political conversation with the campground owner. Went to sleep befor sundown. Woke up late. Hash browns and eggs in front of me. Better gulp them down and get on the trail. Will again regret my late start.
Will be hiking in my Teva sandals rather than hiking boots, which have forced me to take frequent breaks to cool off my feet. I'm gambling the trail won't be too cobbly.
